Tips & Experiences with HVLP Spray Guns

I recently started using an HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray gun for my DIY projects at home, and I wanted to share my experience and get some tips from fellow enthusiasts.

So far, I’ve noticed:
  • Smooth finish: The HVLP gun provides a very even coat with minimal overspray, which is perfect for furniture and cabinets.
  • Paint efficiency: You save a lot of paint compared to traditional spray guns because the gun uses lower pressure.
  • Easy cleanup: I use water-based paints, and cleaning the gun is relatively simple.

Some challenges I faced:
  • Learning curve: It takes a few tries to get the right distance and motion. Too close, and you get runs; too far, and the coating is thin.
  • Slower application: Because of low pressure, it takes longer to cover large surfaces compared to conventional sprayers.

Question for the forum:
Has anyone tried using different tip sizes or nozzle types for varying surfaces? I’m looking for the best setup for spraying cabinets vs. walls. Any advice or recommended brands would be great!

Thanks in advance!
